Department: Administrative Services
Status: 1 day per week (Monday) until December 2009
Casual and on-call ongoing
Salary: Per the CEP 465 Collective Agreement ($23.75-27.91/hr)
Responsible to: Supervisor, Administrative Services

The General Services Assistant position provides general clerical support to the Administrative Assistants and/or their various departments. The General Services Assistant is expected to work collaboratively within the team(s) and to anticipate the needs and requests or assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Administrative Services Team with special projects, e.g., copy, assemble and ship materials as
required;
Assist Administrative Assistants with processing correspondence;
Provide reception relief when required;
Assemble, distribute and maintain a supply of Orientation Kits, Steward Manuals, OH&S Manuals and Contract
Interpretation Manuals;
Assemble and distribute the HSA Steward Supply List Order form as requested;
Other related duties as assigned;
Comply with privacy requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

Successful secondary school completion or equivalent
At least one year of office administration or secretarial training, or equivalent experience
Minimum of two years of relevant office experience
Ability to handle high volume, multi-line switchboard quickly and accurately
Demonstrated intermediate word processing skills with MS Word
Demonstrated working knowledge of Excel skills and other MS Office applications
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Excellent oral and written English communication skills
Demonstrated tact, discretion and adherence to privacy and confidentiality requirements
Ability to balance intensive periods of activity
Ability to maintain a calm and professional manner under difficult situations
