Over 1,000 Merseyside women are feared to be walking around with cheap breast implants that could burst. Former French company Poly Implant Protheses gel breast implants were used by a number of large chains and commercial clinics because of their low price.
But they have left hundreds of women counting the cost after tests exposed that they are more prone to ruptures and leaking. The government’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which is responsible for making sure medical devices are safe has now banned them.
Meanwhile, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) is advising anyone with PIP implants to get them checked.
