Health Fair and Annual Public Meeting on Thursday 13 September to showcase hospital services in Leed |
Date : - 03/09/2012 |
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is going public for the day on Thursday 13 September, with patients and visitors being invited to Health Fair in the Gledhow Wing at St James’s University Hospital, followed by the Trust’s Annual Public Meeting.
The whole of the ground floor including the retail and dining area will be thronged with stalls showcasing some of the services offered by hospital staff as well as NHS partners and charities.
Highlights will include a mock-up display of intensive care equipment, a chance to meet some of the midwives from the TV series One Born Every Minute – filmed at Leeds General Infirmary – plus an invitation to try of keyhole surgery using a training model.
There will be food taster sessions from the hospital menu, the chance to learn more about hang hygiene and take a test to reveal microscopic bugs, and meet some of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance team. Entry to the event is free and refreshments will be available.
The Health Fair lasts from 12 noon until 4.30pm, and will be followed by the Trust’s Annual Public Meeting, also in the ground floor of the Gledhow Wing, from 5pm onwards.
At the Annual Public Meeting there will be the chance to hear about the Trust’s progress, review the annual report, and ask questions of members of the Board who run the Trust.
Mike Collier, Chairman of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Engaging with patients and the public to help them learn more about our services and seek their views is extremely important to us, and we hope this afternoon of activity will be both fun and interesting for everyone who comes along.
“Running a big hospital is a huge team effort involving staff from many departments working together. We want people to get a flavour from the Health Fair of just a few of the activities our staff are involved in 365 days a year to deliver high quality care to our patients.
“We also hope people will come along to the Annual Public Meeting following the Health Fair to hear about the significant progress the Trust has made in the last year, contained in our annual report and accounts, as well as the challenges that lay ahead.” |
