The RD&E is a high quality hospital environment for patients |
Date : - 09/07/2009 |
The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation continues to provide a clean and well maintained hospital environment for its patients.
Assessment results published by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) today (6 July 2009) confirmed that the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital scored ‘Good’ ratings across the three categories: food, environment and privacy and dignity.
The Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) assessments inspect NHS hospitals with more than 10 inpatient beds.
The RD&E was among the 84 per cent of the 1,265 sites which scored either good or excellent for the environment which assessed standards of cleanliness, decoration, linen, furniture and state of repair.
The RD&E was among the 94 per cent of sites scoring good or excellent for the levels of privacy and dignity which examined the quality of sleeping accommodation as well as toilet/bathroom facilities.
The RD&E was among the 95 per cent of sites rated good or excellent for the quality, choice and availability of food for patients.
RD&E Director of Nursing and Patient Care Marie-Noelle Orzel said: “The PEAT results confirm that we consistently provide a good quality of hospital environment, food and levels of privacy and dignity for our patients. These are important aspects of patient care. The self-assessment PEAT data, along with patient satisfaction surveys, help us identify areas we can improve.”
Hotel Services Manager Hazel Hedicker said: “We have a duty to our patients, visitors and staff to ensure our hospital is as clean and safe as possible. For our patients, their bed space is their home during their stay so we want them to have confidence in us to keep it clean and maintained.
“The Trust’s commitment to a deep cleaning programme has enabled us to keep track of repair and maintenance in clinical areas and contributed to a significant reduction in Clostridium difficile infection.”
