ARMC’s Heart Heroes present AED to Atlantic City Special Improvement District
Date : - 30/09/2008
** Device to be used for Ambassador Program on Atlantic City Boardwalk **

Representatives of the Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in
partnership with Service Group, Incorporated (SGI), recently presented an automated
external defibrillator (AED) to Donald Guardian, executive director of the Atlantic City Special
Improvement District (ACSID), for use by the ACSID’s Boardwalk Ambassador Program. The
AED will be placed on one of six Ambassador bikes that patrol the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The
Heart Institute, in conjunction with the ARMC Heart Heroes, contributed a portion of the price
for the AED.

The Heart Heroes is a volunteer group that raises funds for the Heart Institute at ARMC and the
AtlantiCare Foundation to place AEDs in the community. The Heart Heroes fund a portion of the
AED and community groups and/or organizations provide the remaining funds. Service Group,
Incorporated, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, a sub-contractor for the ACSID, supplied the remaining
funds for AED that will be used for the Ambassador Program.

“Having an AED along with trained personnel, can greatly
increase the survival rate of a cardiac emergency,” said
Howard Levite, MD, medical director of the Heart Institute
and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at ARMC. “We are
pleased the ACSID recognizes the need for AEDs, and to help
bring an AED to the Ambassador Program. We thank them for
their dedication to enhancing the well-being of people who
visit the Atlantic City Boardwalk.”

“We are grateful to AtlantiCare and Service Group, Incorporated for
their donation of a portable AED for use by our Boardwalk
Ambassador Program,” said Donald Guardian, executive director of
the Atlantic City Special Improvement District. “AEDs are now a
proven success story in keeping people alive. It just makes sense for a
hospitality destination to provide this type of service to our residents
and visitors.”
