Deborah Appoints Chef Jim Coleman as Honorary Spokesperson Named Healthy Hearts Ambassador |
Date : - 04/11/2008 |
John R. Ernst, President and CEO of Deborah Heart and Lung Center has announced that renowned chef Jim Coleman has been appointed as Healthy Hearts Ambassador for Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Chef Coleman, Executive Chef at Coleman Restaurant at Normandy Farm in Pennsylvania, is one of America’s multi-media celebrity chefs, having mastered television, radio and print. In 1993, the national trade magazine “Restaurants and Institutions” dubbed Coleman “The spatula-wielding king of all media,” a title he continues to hold.
Chef Coleman has been hosting his TV series “Flavors of America” since 1996, making it the longest continuously running national cooking show on PBS in the country. In addition, Chef Coleman hosts “Healthy Flavors” a cable broadcast, “A Chef’s Table” a weekly radio show on NPR, and authors a weekly food column for Knight Ridder. As well he has published three cookbooks, including one featuring recipes he developed while chef at the Rittenhouse Hotel.
Chef Coleman has had a long relationship with Deborah, a specialty heart, lung, and vascular hospital. In addition to featuring many of Deborah’s physicians on his TV shows, he tapes quarterly Chef Tips with Deborah’s doctors, offering viewers advice on heart-healthy options for cooking, shopping, dining, and grilling. These 30-second vignettes are broadcast throughout the Northeast. As well Chef Coleman has been the host and judge of Deborah’s annual dessert contest and is also working on a new “Healthy Flavors” cookbook co-authored with Deborah.
Deborah and Chef Coleman have a common goal: to promote healthy eating for long-term health and well-being. Chef Coleman’s mantra is “healthy eating doesn’t have to mean sacrificing taste and flavor. I keep telling people, just because it’s good for you doesn’t mean it has to taste bad,” said Coleman. “There are so many alternative ways of preparing food and so many wonderful spices and ingredients that add zest and excitement to dishes. Everyone can learn to prepare fast, easy recipes that promote good health.”
As Deborah’s Healthy Hearts Ambassador, Chef Coleman will have a more involved, proactive role in promoting heart healthy dishes and recipes. With a special section on Deborah’s web site, visitors to the site have quick access to Chef Coleman’s cooking and food preparation tips, as well as new and exciting recipes.
