VBMC Announces Support Group For Children Coping With Family Illness or Crisis |
Date : - 07/03/2011 |
Poughkeepsie, NY - March 8, 2011- On April 13, 2011 at 6:30 pm Vassar Brothers Medical Center will host its first meeting for children dealing with a serious family illness or other crisis. The group, Cub's Place, will meet once a month in the hospitals Joseph Tower Auditorium. Cub's Place will provide free activities and resources to children (grades K-5) throughout Dutchess County.
The goal of Cub's Place is to reach out to children who are experiencing a crisis and provide a friendly, stress free environment where they can play and communicate with other children and adults. The children will be engaged in age-appropriate activities and include arts and crafts, guest speakers, parties, snacks and refreshments.
Cub's Place was originally founded by Barbara and Harry Scherr for families in Newburgh and has been highly successful in helping children cope with changing family dynamics in times of crisis.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center is a 365-bed facility that has been serving New York's Mid-Hudson Valley since 1887. Located on the banks of the Hudson River, Vassar Brothers has established centers of excellence in cardiac services, cancer care and women and children's health services. As a regional medical center, Vassar Brothers houses the area's first and only cardiothoracic surgery center between Westchester and Albany and delivers more babies than any other hospital between Manhattan and Montreal.
Vassar Brothers is an affiliate of the Health Quest hospital system, which also includes Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
