About Frimley Park Hospital

Frimley Park Hospital was built in 1974 to provide a full range of district general hospital services for the population of north east Hampshire and west Surrey replacing a number of cottage hospitals. The catchment population at that time was around 170,000 but constant development in the surrounding area has seen this figure rise steadily to about 400,000 today. The trust is the biggest employer in Surrey Heath and has an annual turnover £190million. Since 1996 it has incorporated a Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit, with fully integrated military medics contributing to the success of its patient services.

Due to a consistently strong performance over several years, Frimley Park Hospital became a foundation trust on 1 April 2005. Since then the trust has been able to invest in further patient services such as a modern eye unit, a new £2m cardiac centre, expanded critical care facilities and extended consultant cover in front-line services.

The hospital has strong links with the local community through its foundation trust membership of 11,400 patients, potential patients, stakeholders and staff. The trust is developing ways of involving members more and more in its future.

The main centres of population served by Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are: Aldershot, Ash, Ash Vale, Bagshot, Blackwater Camberley, Crowthorne, Eversley, Farnborough, Farnham, Fleet, Frimley, Sandhurst, Yateley and surrounding communities.

Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit

The Ministry of Defence has played a critical part in absorbing the extra workload following the closure of the Cambridge Military Hospital. MDHU staff have been successfully integrated into Frimley's clinical structure, treating both MoD and civilian patients.
The hospital has provided a sound training base for post-graduate doctors and nurses, and MDHU staff have brought additional skills and expertise for the benefit of the local community.

History Of Frimley Park Hospital

** Our history **
When Frimley Park Hospital was built in 1974 it served a population of 170,000 and saw 25,000 inpatients and day patients each year.

How things have changed. Last year 65,000 inpatients and day patients were treated and there were 250,000 outpatients' appointments. Soon the local population will reach 400,000 and growth looks likely to continue with more large housing developments.

In 1996 we incorporated a Ministry of Defence hospital unit, substantially improving our patient services.

In 2005 we became the first hospital in our area to be awarded foundation trust status.

Today
Some of Frimley Park's recent service developments include:

The Aldershot Centre for Health: a pioneering development shared with Hampshire Primary Care Trust and the Ministry of Defence which provides a more localised outpatient centre and support services such as CT scanning, x-ray, ultrasound and pathology.

A new cardiac catheterisation lab to provide gold-standard heart treatments such as angioplasty (reopening blocked arteries using keyhole surgery) and fitting pacemakers.

Increased consultant cover in A&E; we are the only hospital in the South of England to have senior cover from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday and for 12 hours at weekends.

Isolation facilites and more single room accommodation

A major theatre and radiology department redevelopment, including a state-of-the-art interventional radiology suite.

Extra beds and delivery rooms for maternity.

We have strong links with the local community through our foundation trust membership of over 15,000 patients, potential patients, stakeholders and staff. We are developing ways of involving our members more and more in our future.
