The hospital is situated on the A191 approximately 8 miles east of Newcastle and is the largest of the Trust's three general hospitals. Over the past year (2007/08) the hospital has seen over 63,000 people coming through its Accident and Emergency department, has held almost 133,000 outpatient appointments and admitted over 45,000 patients.
