Additionally, many of our doctors are listed in Best Doctors in America.
In addition to providing excellent eye care to more than 250,000 patients annually at our centers in Miami at the Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital, in Naples, Plantation and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, our faculty members conduct innovative biomedical research and present progressive, industry-leading academic programs to ophthalmologists and other physicians in the community and worldwide.
Advancing Medical Innovation
Consistent with our mission to resolve diseases and disorders of the eye, our scientists and physicians develop new theories, therapeutic techniques and surgical instruments that advance the course of ophthalmic practices worldwide. In 2009, Bascom Palmer surgeons performed the first modified osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis surgery in the United States and restored vision to a woman who had been blind for 9 years. The complex procedure involved several surgeries culminating in implanting her eyetooth in her eye, as a base to hold a prosthetic lens.
