History Of Pasco Regional Medical Center
** History **
On October 1, 1973, a local Board of Directors opened Community General Hospital as a 64-bed facility with a 5-bed intensive care unit, 8-bed nursery and a 2-room operating suite. The hospital Board of Trustees consisted of Freeman Polk, Moderator; Charles Touchton, Assistant Moderator; Joe McClain; William C. Webb; Henry Douglas; Sallie Massey; Dr. Dwayn L. Deal; Dr. H.G. Brownlee; Dr. William H. Walters; and Dr. George Carver.
In 1982 the parent company changed the hospital's name to Humana Hospital-Pasco and opened an additional 56 beds. The hospital became part of the Columbia network of hospitals in September 1993 and changed the name to Dade City Hospital.
In March 1998 Dade City Hospital changed its name to Pasco Community Hospital.
Health Management Associates, Inc. (HMA) acquired the facility in September 2000 and renamed the hospital Pasco Regional Medical Center.
Today we have 120 beds. One North is a 43 bed adult medical surgical unit. One South consists of 29 beds for women and children. Two North, located on the second floor, is reserved for post-operative surgical care. Our Intensive Care Unit consists of 12 beds and our 24-hour Emergency Care Department is equipped with 10 rooms.
Award winning Pasco Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is accredited by the Joint Commission and was named by Thomson as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation in 1997 and 2003. In addition, PRMC is ranked among the Top Five Percent in the Nation for General Surgery and is rated a Five Star facility for General Surgery by HealthGrades in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
