History Of Carroll County Gen Hospital
When we think of health care, the first images that come to mind are probably of doctors, nurses, check-ups, emergency room visits and specialized procedures. But it’s really so much more. Health care refers to a complex system that is always changing, always growing and always making strides to improve our quality of life.Such a system is depicted in our vision for Carroll Hospital Center — a vision we’ve been achieving step by step, year after year for nearly 50 years.
It all began following World War II, when a small group of local and civic business leaders had the wisdom to recognize the need for a community hospital—and the determination to bring their vision to reality. You know a community is truly blessed when it has among its citizens people like this who are committed to a goal and have the energy and leadership skills necessary to affect positive change.
As a result of their efforts, what was then Carroll Hospital Center opened its doors for the first time on October 1, 1961. Inside, a growing community of patients and visitors found a medical facility of tremendous promise.
Over the years, we’ve come a long way — from a one-building hospital where patients once had to ring a bell to get into the emergency room after hours to the greatly expanded, comprehensive hospital center with state-of-the-art technology that we are today.
