Opened in 1975 by a group of leading community physicians, Doctors Community Hospital is a private, not-for-profit hospital located in Lanham, Maryland. The hospital, which is one and one-half miles from the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and 495, is focused on meeting the health care needs of Prince George’s County and the region.
Doctors Community Hospital currently operates 200 medical/surgical beds, admits 12,000 patients annually, and employs 1,300 individuals. Our medical staff is comprised of more than 500 physicians. The hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services, a number of specialty and subspecialty services, and a full range of ancillary and support services.
Doctors Community Hospital recently opened its new six-story patient bed tower, featuring 90 private patient rooms and a significantly expanded Emergency Department, adding 17 additional treatment beds. Private rooms benefit the patients by supporting healing and providing privacy, while the Emergency Department expansion enables the hospital to treat a greater number of patients and reduce wait times.
The recently expanded Emergency Department is now able to treat up to 90,000 patients per year. This will be made possible by an enhanced triage area; updated patient monitoring systems; and 24-hour access to emergency imaging, including CT scan, MRI, radiology and ultrasound. The new triage area and monitoring systems, along with the private patient rooms, are expected to decrease wait times and speed overall treatment of patients.
