** A Legacy Of Care **
** The History Of Marion General Hospital **
Marion General Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of our community for nearly 85 years, and healthcare technology has evolved enormously since we first began taking care of patients as Marion City Hospital at 242 Blaine Avenue.
Today’s hospital at 1000 McKinley Park Drive, is our third location. After outgrowing our Blaine Avenue location, we converted the former Waddell Ladies Home at 685 Delaware Avenue to a larger, more modern facility. The medical needs of our community continued to grow and, in 1954, our current facility was built and officially dedicated. On January 17, 1955, the first patient was transferred from Marion City Hospital to Marion General Hospital.
Progress continues to change the hospital. Since acquiring MedCenter Hospital in 1998, we have invested more than $28 million into our current building including an 18-bed medical unit with all private rooms; an emergency department that has doubled in size; a state-of-the-art ICU; expanded operating rooms; and an impressive cardiac cath lab addition.
Given our strong ongoing service to the 7-county area, our community can rest assured that Marion General Hospital will continue to grow and stay on the cutting edge of medical care as need and innovation develop.
