AGH Sports Medicine Specialist Dr. Edward Snell Honored by Athletic Trainers Society |

(July 15, 2009) – Allegheny General Hospital sports medicine specialist Edward Snell, MD, received the 2009 Team Physician Award from the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society, in recognition of his 15-plus years of service to athletes, and the education and support of athletic trainers.
The award was presented at the Society’s 29th annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Johnstown, Pa.
In addition to serving as the Director of the Primary Sports Medicine Fellowship at AGH, Dr. Snell is Head Team Physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was recently elected President of the Major League Baseball Team Physicians’ Association.
He serves as Medical Director for Duquesne University’s Athletic Training Education Program and is team physician for numerous Pittsburgh-area high schools including Carlynton, Franklin Regional, Avonworth, Northgate and Vincentian.
“Dr. Snell continues to advocate for high-quality health care and safety standards for athletes in Pennsylvania and nationwide. We as athletic trainers are fortunate to have his expertise and support for the advancement of sports medicine and athletic training in our own backyard,” said Dr. Paula Sammarone Turocy, Department Chair for Athletic Training at Duquesne University.
Dr. Snell also serves as Medical Supervisor of the Special Olympics PA State Winter Games, and is a member of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
