| ALBANY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TO UNVEIL NEW $14 MILLION EXPANDED EMERGENCY ROOM |

Albany Memorial Hospital, a member of Troy-based not-for-profit, Northeast Health, will unveil its $14 million, newly renovated and expanded emergency department at an official opening ceremony, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 10 a.m., 600 Northern Blvd., Albany.
Local dignitaries will attend, including Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings who will speak.
Norman Dascher, chief executive officer of Northeast Health's patient care division which includes Albany Memorial Hospital and Samaritan Hospital in Troy, also will speak; along with Dr. Cliff Erikson, director of the emergency department, and Nancy Harris, RN, BS, nurse director of the emergency department.
Albany Memorial kicked off the two-year expansion and renovation project in December 2006. The new 30,000-square-foot emergency department -- now nearly triple its original size -- is designed to accommodate the dramatic growth and increased care needs in the community. The expanded area offers 31 patient rooms and features a patient-centered design that can accommodate 40,000 patient visits a year.
The former emergency department at Albany Memorial was built in the mid 1970s and designed to accommodate only 18,000 patient visits a year. However, prior to its expansion, Albany Memorial had actually been providing approximately 30,000 visits yearly.
The $14 million expansion and renovation project also features a new front lobby and central registration area, along with improvements for ambulance access and increased patient flow. Construction was completed ahead of schedule with opening originally expected in March 2009.
