| Commissioners grant deputies raise |

At a called meeting late Wednesday, Bacon County Commissioners granted deputies' requests for hourly wage increases to help compensate for a reduction in hours. Deputies will make slightly less this year than the amount originally budgeted for payroll but the deal is up for renegotiation at the end of the calendar year.
* State Revenue Dept. pays Tax Assessors 'routine' visit
It was a much-anticipated visit that local folks hoped would shine some light on a controversial subject. In the end, though, they may not get any hard and fast answers.
Bacon County played host this week to representatives from the Georgia Department of Revenue in what the DOR defined as a “courtesy visit.†Three representatives from the DOR spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday reviewing records at the Bacon County Tax Assessors office and were not accessible to The Alma Times. An interview request was deferred to a department spokesman in Atlanta.
“There probably won’t be an official report,†said Director of Public Information Charles Willey. “It would just be a conversation between our folks and the folks in the (Assessors) office.â€
