| Parkland names senior vice president and chief quality officer |

Peter Hoffmann, MD, has been named Parkland Health & Hospital System's senior vice president and chief quality officer. He begins April 27.
In his new role, Dr. Hoffmann will oversee quality improvement, patient safety and risk prevention as well as infection control, regulatory readiness and utilization management.
"Any health care institution owes its patients the very best medical care and customer service. Our goal must be to meet those obligations," said Dr. Hoffmann.
Hoffmann comes to Parkland with more than 25 years of experience in health care leadership, the past two years as chief medical officer and clinical professor of medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Previously he served as associate professor of medicine and as vice president for clinical operations at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He also served as the medical director of Wake Forest University Physicians. He previously worked as the corporate medical director for utilization management for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. In addition to his faculty appointment at Wake Forest, he has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brown University Medical School.
"Dr. Hoffmann brings to Parkland a wealth of experience in quality and clinical effectiveness work as well as an intimate understanding of how information technology can be harnessed to take advantage of opportunities for improvement," said Jay Shannon, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer for Parkland. "His experience with academic medical centers and his clinical insight into what matters in health quality performance indicators will be invaluable as Parkland reorganizes its approach to quality and safety."
Hoffmann, who specializes in hematology, received his bachelor's degree from Columbia College of Columbia University and his medical degree and a master's degree in philosophy from the Medical Scientist Training Program through Columbia University. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of California at San Francisco and his fellowship in hematology and oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Children's Hospital Boston and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
