About Huguley Memorial Medical Ctr

Huguley Memorial Medical Center opened in 1977 with the mission to further the healing ministry of Christ.

As a member of Adventist Health System, Huguley is operated in a tradition of healthcare that recognizes that total health is achieved through the proper balance of physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.

Huguley Memorial Medical Center, located on I-35W in south Fort Worth, includes a 213-bed acute care hospital, two intensive care units, progressive care unit, open heart surgery center, behavioral health center and emergency department available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More than 350 primary care and specialty physicians provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The Mobile Health Services Bus provides complete examinations and other health-care services throughout Tarrant and Johnson counties.

Huguley's 16-bed intensive care unit for patients with medical care and respiratory needs and the 12-bed intensive care unit concentrating on cardiovascular patients are staffed by intensively trained critical care nurses. A 4-bed dialysis center is available for renal patients with critical needs.

The 33-bed Progressive Care Unit is designed to bridge the gap between the Intensive Care Unit and the medical-surgical units. When patients are ready to be moved out of the ICU, but still need frequent monitoring or acute medical treatment, the Progressive Care Unit will provide the level of care they need. The Progressive Care Unit is staffed by Advanced Cardiac Life Support-certified registered nurses and other highly trained personnel.

Our Mission

History Of Huguley Memorial Medical Ctr

Huguley Memorial Medical Center, a part of Adventist Health System/Sunbelt was opened in February 1977. It is named after Herbert T. Huguley, MD, a dentist and a real estate investor from Dallas, Texas who left his $6 million estate to the Adventist Church to build a hospital in honor of his parents. Dr. Huguley was a dentist who studied at Tulane University. He served in his profession 34 years. He always had a big heart for those in need. He was very devoted to his mother and to other family members of the family. During World War II he was a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. For several years he played the violin in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra where he held the coveted first-chair position. Dr. Huguley died on May 22, 1967 at the age of 69. He left a legacy that will continue to bless humanity.

After Dr. Huguley's initial donation, more than $3.25 million was contributed by foundations, individuals and corporations. The Fort Worth Leadership Committee chaired by Louis J. Levy, M.D., in concert with the Adventists, conducted the successful capital campaign. The campaign which culminated in 1977, was the largest voluntary support effort for a hospital Fort Worth had seen until that time.

Nearly $2.5 million was contributed to the project by seven major funding sources: the Amon G. Carter Foundation, Paul G. Pewitt, the J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, the Fort Worth Clearing House Association and the Texas Electric Service Company. There has been a continuing partnership between the communities and Huguley ever since.
