About Niagara Health System - St. Catharines General
** St. Catharines General **
One of Canada's oldest hospitals, St. Catharines General Site started as a cottage hospital in 1865 and moved to its present location on Queenston Street in 1870. Today, this large community hospital provides a wide range of Acute.
Ambulatory/Outpatient, Critical, Emergency and Surgical services to a catchment area of more than 160,000 people. With more than 200 Acute Care and Mental Health beds, it features new CT and MRI machines, Maternal/Child services, an Ontario Breast Screening Program, an Outpatient Oncology unit, and an inpatient Palliative Care/Oncology unit. The Niagara Regional Campus of McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Medicine is centred here. The regional program Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre, Niagara, with specially-trained nurses and doctors, is available through the Emergency Department. Construction is underway on a new healthcare complex in St. Catharines at a new location, combining St. Catharines' acute care and outpatient services in one location, as well as regional services including the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Cardiac Catheterization and specialized Mental Health inpatient services. The new healthcare complex is scheduled to open in 2013.
