Access to world class healthcare is critical. But equally important is the kind of care a patient receives. We believe, medical care is not a business, but a call to serve. A call to serve you and your loved ones with compassion.
In the nineties, Mumbai had few hospitals and fewer multi speciality hospitals. To provide affordable modern healthcare to the people of Thane regardless of their financial or social status, Dr. Stephen Alfred MS. (Bom.), FRCS (Edin.), FRCS (Glasg.) as Managing Trustee of Bethany Trust spearheaded the effort to fulfill this vision.
The dream turned to reality with the setting up of Lok Hospital in February 1997.
To help serve you better, Bethany Trust, that owns and manages Lok Hospital, unveiled a comprehensive new world class healthcare facility that combines compassion with the finest in diagnostic and therapeutic technology. Bethany Hospital, a 125 bedded multi specialty hospital, became operational in June 2011.
At the heart of the 8 storeyed structure is the same belief that undergirded the ethos of Lok Hospital life is a precious gift of God and deserves our utmost attention.
Bethany Hospital has put together surgical and clinical expertise of very high quality. This 125 bed, centrally air conditioned hospital is fully equipped for world class patient centred medical and surgical services. History Of Bethany Hospital
Knowing the great need for medical care in his native India, British-trained surgeon Stephen Alfred felt God calling him to return to Thane, India to address this need. In 1992 he returned from the United Kingdom to practice privately in Thane, bringing with him the dream of eventually starting a hospital to minister to the area’s many people. With much prayer and support, his dream of creating a hospital to provide excellent care to the needy while showing Christ’s love for all slowly became a reality.
In February of 1997 the first phase of hospital construction was complete. The two-story Lok Hospital was born. The first floor consisted of a minor operating theatre (including a full range of endoscopic equipment), X Ray, Ultrasound, Electrocardiogram, Electroencephalogram, EEG and Pulmonary function test facilities ,a major operating theatre, an outpatient department with seven consultation rooms. The second floor included wards with a total capacity of 28 beds.
Construction of two additional floors began in 1998 and was completed in 1999. Lok Hospital as it stands today has expanded to include a 6-bed intensive care unit that first treated patients in January 1999, a six-bed neonatal intensive care unit that heard its first newborn cry in August of 2001, a haemodialysis suite, administrative offices, a medication dispensary and eight additional ward beds. Another 4 beds were added for inpatient treatment in 2007 Thus making it into a total of 56 beds.
