Date : - 06/04/2009 |
Thomson Reuters also names Munson Medical Center national benchmark hospital
Two Munson Healthcare System hospitals were named to the list of 100 Top Hospitals for 2008.
Mercy Hospital Cadillac was honored for the first time, and Munson Medical Center for the 11th time.
?To have two hospitals in the Munson Healthcare System recognized for outstanding organizational performance is a credit to the staff leadership, boards, and volunteers at both hospitals,? said Doug Deck, Munson Healthcare president and CEO. ?Northern Michigan residents only need to look close to home to find quality care that is tops in the country.?
The 100 Top Hospitals rankings are based on overall performance and are released annually by Thomson Reuters, a health care information and solutions company in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Mercy Hospital Cadillac is affiliated with the Munson Healthcare System and is owned by Trinity Health in Novi, Mich. The hospital has an overall top rating among all hospitals in the Trinity Health system in patient safety and quality scores.
?It takes teamwork to achieve these excellent outcomes. We are blessed in Cadillac to have talented, dedicated physicians, staff, and volunteers,? says John MacLeod, Mercy Hospital Cadillac President and CEO. ?This national recognition will reinforce our efforts to continuously improve patient safety and quality and to continue our quest to be our community?s trusted health partner for life.?
Munson Medical Center has been on the list more times than any other hospital in Michigan, and joins an elite group of five hospitals to be recognized 11 times or more.
Munson Medical Center also was the only facility in Michigan among 23 nationally named an Everest Award for National Benchmarks winner. This new award from Thomson Reuters recognizes a hospital?s rate of long-term improvement and establishes Munson Medical Center as a national benchmark against which other hospitals will be compared.
?The boards, executives, and physician leaders of the Everest Award-winning hospitals developed long-term strategies and executed them with extraordinary skill and extraordinary results,? said Jean Chenoweth, Senior Vice President for Performance Improvement at Thomson Reuters. ?The Everest Award winners have reached the point at which innovation is a must for further improvement.?
?We are honored and thankful for the what the Everest Award represents for the hospital, physicians, staff, volunteers, our board, and the community,? said Robert Sprunk, MD, chair of the Munson Medical Center Board. ?Hospital leadership and the board have consistently put patient safety and quality as our focus and goal. Everybody at the hospital and in the community should be proud. Community support of the hospital has been crucial to its success.?
Munson Medical Center President and CEO Ed Ness said an 11th award coupled with the new Everest Award recognition represents something special for the hospital?s efforts to pursue quality health care. ?It?s extremely gratifying to be recognized nationally for our efforts in two ways this year,? Ness said.
These latest awards make Munson Medical Center the most recognized hospital in Michigan. The hospital also was named the American Hospital Association ? McKesson Quest for Quality Prize winner in 2008. Only one hospital in the nation yearly receives the award.
