About Us
Man was happy with his god given body. However flat, be the
nose, or small the chin, or however be his progressive obesity,
but then nothing was possible, nor was he bothered. But, today
man has become conscious of his body and to a great extent is
willing to adapt techniques for improvement. He desires and
often contemplates as to how one can increase or decrease his
weight, or even how to look prettier or even how to brighten
ones complexion. The fashion magazines and beauty parlours are
able to help the beauty conscious people to achieve their goal,
and moreover improvements to the complexion, hair, nose, breasts,
and use of cosmetics and herbal drugs have been described by
many through the years. Even the problem of weight could be
solved by diet and exercise, but there was no way to bring a
change to original construction of the body or face. However
we now know that cosmetic surgery today, cannot only improve
the appearance but can also change the face nose is more popular
now. Face-lift or Rhinoplasty that tightens the loose skin of
the face to reduce the age, is specially useful to the people
of the glamour world. Even the ordinary individual or those
seeking promotions are trying to conceal their age now with
the help of face lifting operations. Another surgery gradually
gaining popularity is blepheroplasty. This helps in removing
the stored fat around the eyes. It is also true accurately and
permanently and can help in increasing the beauty of any part
of the face and body.

APPOINTMENTS & TRAINING IN INDIA, EUROPE AND U. S. A 1962 - 1964 :
1964 Dept. of Plastic Surgery at the S.S.K.M Hospital, both
Junior and Senior Resident Medical Officer under Prof, M.
M. Mukherjee 1964 - 1966.
Postgraduate Trainee for M.S. in General Surgery under Prof. A. K. Basu 1966.
Submitted M.S. thesis at the University of Calcutta. "Studies
on cases of Hypospadias with special reference to the evaluation
of techniques of surgical repair and the importance of Chromosomal
Analysis as a guide to the repair" 1966 - 1967.
Appointed as Senior House Officer at the Paddington General
Hospital, U.K. for a short period 1967.
Obtained the M.S. degree from the University of Calcutta, India 1969 - 1971.
Left for U.K. as attendant to my husband who was operated
by Mr. J. R. Hudson at Moorfield Eye Hospital 1972 - 1975.
Appointed as I.C.M.R post-doctoral research fellow in the
Dept. of Plastic Surgery at the Institute of Postgraduate
Medical Education & Research (I.P.G.M.E & R) at Calcutta under
guidance of Dr. A. C. Ganguli First and later continued under
Prof. Anjali Mukherjee as guide. The research project was
on "Studies on the Velopharyngeal Complex in Cleft Palate
and normal" 1975.
In U. K. She was awarded the "British Council Travelling Fellowship"
and visited several plastic surgery centers in the U.K. Of
particular interest were the plastic surgery unit at the spinal
injuries center at stoke Mandeville and the Craniofacial unit
at the Plastic Surgery Deptt. at the Children's Hospital in
Great Ormond street in UK.
Took training under Prof. Obweggesar, Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial
Surgery at the Kantonsspitalder University Zurich, Zurich,
Switzerland.
Took training under Tord Shoog, Professor of Plastic Surgery,
University of Uppsala, Sweden 1976.
Re-appointed as ICMR post doctoral fellow at the Dept. of
Plastic Surgery, LP.G.M.E. & R under Dr. Anjali Mukherjee
to complete the project 1978.
Training in Microsurgery and Aesthetic Surgery at the Tokyo
Metropolitan Police Hospital under Dr. Seechii Ohmori and
Dr. Kiyonari Harii and also chaired one session during the
7th International Congress of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
held in Tokyo 1978 Nov.
Joined West Bengal Health Services. Appointed as medical officer
in the Plastic Surgery unit at the J. N. M. Hospital at Kalyani.
Here she was able to establish the microsurgery unit in 1980.
Was appointed Head of 60 bedded Plastic Surgery Unit' at J.N.M.
Hospital 1982.
She also chaired the session on hand surgery during the 9th
International Congress of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
held in New Delhi 1983.
She visited USA for advanced training in Cleft Lip Palate
Surgery under Dr. D. Ralph Millard, Chief of the Division
of Plastic Surgery, Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miamtei
Florida, USA. Also trained in Cosmetic Rhinoplasty under Dr.
Thomas D. Rees, Prof. of Plastic Surgery at the Manhattan
Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Also spent some time under Dr.
Jack Sheen an authority on Aesthetic Rhinoplasty, Professor
of Plastic Surgery at the U.C.L.A School of Medicine, Los
Angeles, California, USA., Trained with Dr. Ernest Mandero 1984.
Took training in Hand Surgery under Dr. B. B. Joshi reputed
hand surgeon at the Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bombay 1985.
Appointed at the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education
& Research. in Calcutta as the resident medical officer and
a trainee for M. Ch course 1987.
Left for Europe, France
- Took advanced training in hand surgery under Dr. Gilbert,
Director of the Hand Institute in Paris.
- Worked with Dr. Brugere, Director of Head and Neck Oncology
and Dr. Joseph Rodreiguez at the Curie Institute in Paris.
- Took training in the techniques of Liposuction from Dr.
Vyes - Gerard Illouz, Chief Consultant at the Clinique Spontini
in Paris 1987.
Returned to India and obtained M.Ch in Plastic Surgery from
the university of Calcutta 1988.
Continued as Registrar in the Dept. of Plastic Surgery Unit
at I.P.G.M.E & R, Calcutta, India 1989.
Left for U.S.A- For training in Cranio-facial surgery under
Dr. Ian T. Jackson, Director of the Institute of Crania-facial
surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan at USA.
On return established the Cranio-facial surgery in the Dept.
of Ear, Nose & Throat of the SSKM Hospital. She also took charge
of the Cleft Lip Palate Clinic and organized the orthodontic
treatment and training for these congenitally deformed patients 1992.
She was invited to chair the cleft Lip Palate Session during
the Xth International Congress of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery held at Madrid, Spain. Following this She spent 2 months
in U.K. and Edinburgh and London at different Plastic Surgery
Centres 1992 - 1993.
On return to India She was appointed Head of Plastic Surgery
Unit at the Medical College & Hospital, Calcutta. Here She was
able to start a full fledged Cranio-facial Center including
the Head and Neck Surgery. By 1996 also established the microsurgery
at the Plastic Surgery Unit of the Dept. of Surgery at medical
College 1994.
Organised the "Hand Surgery Workshop" at Medical College, chief
faculty being Dr. Edshage Gotenburg, Sweden 1996.
Organised the "Breast Cancer Workshop" at the Medical College
with the sponsorship of the Association of surgeons of West
Bengal. Chief International faculty being Dr. Krishna Clough,
Chief of the Breast Centre at the ,Curie Institute, at Paris 1997.
She retired from West Bengal Health Services. She joined the
Advanced Medicare and Research Institute in Calcutta as senior
Plastic Surgery Consultant.
- Actively involved with her practice at the Calcutta Aesthetic
Surgery Clinic performing all types of reconstructive and
aesthetic surgery. - Attached to the AMRI Apollo Hospitals
as Plastic Surgery Consultant.
- Attached as Plastic Surgery Consultant at the Health Point
Diagnostic and Care Research Centre at Calcutta.
- Plastic surgery Consultant at the women's Clinic recently
established 2, Humayun Court on Lindsay Street Calcutta.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
- She was ICMR post doctoral research fellow from 1972 -
1975 in the Deptt. of Plastic Surgery at the I.P.G.M.E &
RI Calcutta. The research on "Studies on the Velopharyngeal
Complex in Velt Palate and normal" was under the guidance
of Dr. A. C. Ganguli first and later continued under Prof. Anjali Mukherjee.
- Was awarded the "Peet Prize" Best Paper Award from the
Association of Plastic Surgeons of India in 1973.
- Was awarded the "British Council Traveling Fellowship"
in 1975 for one month by the British Council when She had
the occasion to visit several plastic surgery centers in UK.
- Took training in micro vascular surgery from Dr. Kiyonarii
Hari in Tokyo in 1977 and joined WBHS in 1978 and established
the microsurgery unit by 1980 at the JNM Hospital Kalyanil
first such center in West Bengal.
- First Indian Plastic Surgeon to start microsurgery in
Calcutta in 1980.
- First Indian Plastic Surgeon to start liposuction in 1984.
- Was awarded the "Best Paper Award." for 1992 by the Association
of Surgeons (West Bengal chapter).
- The first Indian Plastic Surgeon from Bengal to be invited
as Chairman to the Xth International Congress of Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery that was held in Madrid, Spain in 1992 .
- First Indian Plastic Surgeon from Bengal to start the
Cranio facial surgery in 1992, and the only person continuing
with difficult congenital problems and facial aesthetic
surgery problems at the A. M. R. I. and Apollo Hospitals.
- Was President of the Indian Society for Surgery of the
Hand for 2 year term. 1992 - 1994.
- Was President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Uptown 1995 - 1996 .
- Rotary International sponsored her visit to Dhaka to organize
the Camp for the treatment of Acid Burn Victims in Bangladesh
in Nov. 1999
- Was invited as guest speaker during the "Annual Conference
of the Surgeons of Nepal" at Kathmandu in November 2002.
- Was invited by the association of Surgeons of Indonesia
to present a paper during the 8th International Congress
of the Oriental Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon held
at Bali. Indonesia in October 2002.
Was Organizing secretary to the following International Conferences :
- East Zonal Workshop on Head and Neck Cancer in India attended
by 5 visiting faculties including Dr. Ian McGregor of UK.
- XVI Annual Conference of the Indian Society for Surgery
of the Hand - visiting faculty Dr. Leung from Hong Kong.
- Hand Surgery Workshop organized at Medical College International
faculty being Dr. Savante Edshage, head of the hand surgery
unit at the University Hospital in 1993 .
- Organised the workshop on "Update on Breast Cancer Surgery",
at Medical College in February, 1995, Dr. Krishna B. Clough
of Curie Institute Paris formed the visiting faculty.
- Organised the "Cranio-facial workshop" at the Advanced
