The Bristol Heart Institute is a new £61m state of the art hospital that brings cardiology and cardiac surgery services together under one roof for the first time in Bristol.
The centre includes three catheter laboratories and a state of the art hybrid theatre, three inpatient wards for cardiac patients, a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Coronary Care Unit and an outpatients department.
The BHI opened to patients in May 2009 and in an average year the centre will carry out around 1,700 heart operations, perform 4,000 cardiology procedures, and treat around 15,000 outpatients.
The centre is linked to the Bristol Royal Infirmary through theatres and the CICU.
The hospital has been designed in partnership with patients, staff and the public and will deliver a full range of diagnostic and interventional treatments for heart conditions, including primary angioplasty, to the people of Bristol, the South West and beyond.
