Cromer Hospital is located in Cromer on the North Norfolk coast and serves the North Norfolk population. Proposals exist to replace the 1930s-founded Cromer Hospital with a new £15 million hospital.
The hospital provides a wide range of consultant-led out-patient services, day case operations and an Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) open seven days a week, from 08.00 to 20.00.
History Of Cromer Hospital
1920s
In December 1928 it was decided that Cromer needed a new hospital and a fundraising target of £20,000 was set. Frank Barclay gave the Mill Road site for the hospital in 1929
1930s
Cromer Hospital was formally opened by Lady Suffield in July 20 1932 after a remarkable fundraising effort from the local community.
1940s
In 1948 the hospital became part of the National Health Service
1990s
In 1994 the hospital became part of this trust, which was then named the Norfolk and Norwich Health Care NHS Trust
2000s
In 2001 the Trust received a legacy from Cromer resident Mrs Sagle Bernstein who left £11.4 million to Cromer Hospital
In December 2006 a plan went out to public consultation for the building of a new hospital on the MIll Road site using the Bernstein legacy
In October 2007, the contractor was announced (Balfour Beatty subsidiary Mansells) for the new £12 million hospital on the current site
In July 2008 the Board of the Trust allocated an additional £12 million of the Trust's funds to the project, taking the budget to £24 million.
In June 2009 the Board of the Trust revised the budget down to £15 million - due to the state of the global economy and the effect on public finances
