The Neuroscience Unit is based at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre which is linked to the Princess Royal Hospital on the Haywards Heath campus.
The centre has two dedicated Neurosciences operating theatres, which were opened in 2001, and has 45 beds.
The Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre was originally built in 1938 as an acute psychiatric admissions unit.
In 1941, full neuroscience services were relocated to Hurstwood Park. It will be moving to the Brighton campus over the next three to five years to be co-located with cardiac, renal and other essential specialist services enabling Brighton to develop as the Sussex Regional Centre for Trauma care.
Neuroscience services are defined as those which meet the needs of patients suffering disorders of the brain and nervous system. Hurstwood Park provides a full range of services, including surgery.
