** About Us **
Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health a place to blossom, open, and shine
Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health is a center for health care services. Together, the hospital staff and the programs we offer, provide a relaxed and beautiful environment for personal restoration and growth.
Kāhi Mōhala embraces an inter-disciplinary approach to services, incorporating an integrative perspective in emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioral health care treatment. Our Kāhi Mōhala C.A.R.E.S. philosophy (Culture of Aloha, Relationship Based, and Environment of Safety) enhances excellence of care by incorporating the feedback of both patients and staff in developing the most positive healing environment.
Our 88-bed facility is located on 14.5 acres on the rural west side on the island of Oahu. We are Hawaii’s only freestanding, community-based, not for profit psychiatric hospital; serving the needs of not only individuals and families in Hawaii, but also those throughout the Pacific Rim.
Kahi Mohala is accredited by The Joint Commission, certified by TRICARE and Medicare/Medicaid.
** Our Mission **
Kahi Mohala is dedicated to caring for people in need by providing innovative, quality, and effective behavioral health services.
History Of Kahi Mohala
** Our History **
Kahi Mohala was acquired by Sutter Health in 1993 and was converted to a not-for-profit behavioral health hospital. The acquisition assured the continued availability of the 88-bed facility to serve the Pacific Rim community.
An Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program was introduced in 1999 at its lower Ewa Beach campus on the island of Oahu.
In 2000, Kahi Mohala became the first TRICARE/CHAMPUS-certified partial hospitalization program for children and adolescents in Hawaii.
In 2002, Kahi Mohala introduced a new treatment system that emphasizes a positive behavior approach, creates learning opportunities for patients and sets clear behavioral expectations.
The entire staff of the Adult Acute Unit was trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, resulting in marked improvements with mood disorder patients using this new therapy.
In 2003, Kahi Mohala introduced an enhanced treatment program for the adolescent unit. The program features a positive behavior approach, based on the traditional nautical elements of Hawaii’s past. In October of that same year Kahi Mohala celebrated its 20th anniversary as a provider of excellent behavioral health care services to the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Pacific Rim.
