Machias—Chitra Lal, MD of Down East Community Hospital was recently elected as a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). The College is a leading resource for the improvement in cardiopulmonary health and critical care worldwide with over 16,000 active members representing over 100 countries. Their mission is to promote the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest through leadership, education, research and communication.
Dr. Lal joined Down East Community Hospital in 2006 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine and Pulmonology. Dr. Lal’s practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of Asthma, Emphysema, Pneumonia, Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Embolism, Pulmonary Artery Hypertension, and Sleep Apnea. Additionally, Dr. Lal provides Critical Care Management, Ventilator Management, Pulmonary Function Testing and Sleep Studies.
Dr. Lal received her medical degree and her Diploma in Child Health from the Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi. She completed her Residency in Internal Medicine from St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and her Fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine from University of Tennessee at Memphis. Dr. Lal is a member of the American College of Physicians—American Society of Internal Medicine, American Medical Association, American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine and is now a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians,
