If you were driving a vehicle and suddenly lost control, would you know what to do? |
Date : - 16/04/2009 |
The reality is that most teens would not because vehicle control isn’t taught in basic driver’s education courses. Gundersen Lutheran is committed to keeping teens safe by offering a free “Teen Car Control Clinic” for licensed drivers on Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic will be held in the parking lot south of the Gundersen Lutheran hospital near the MedLink AIR hangar.
In this clinic, you will be behind the wheel of your own vehicle to learn about handling limits and how to safely control your vehicle in real life situations. Instructors from the Audi Club of North America are brought in to teach this event.
“What we liked the most about the event was getting real-life experience in a controlled environment,” commented a parent from last year’s clinic. “(This clinic) helped open my child’s eyes as to the possible actions and reactions of our vehicle.”
We recommend that a parent/guardian attend the course with the licensed teen (sorry, no permit drivers allowed) and you must use your own vehicle for the driving portion of the course.
This is a free clinic, but pre-registration is required by May 8. Breakfast and lunch by Domino’s will be provided. Call 775-2011 with the participant’s name, age, address, phone number, name of school, and the name of the parent who will be accompanying the student.
Vehicle requirements include
1 Your car must be in good mechanical condition and
safe in the opinion of the instructor. All cars
will need to pass a brief safety inspection. No
visible leaks of any kind.
2 The car must be legally registered, licensed, and
insured to participant or their parent/legal
guardian.
3 No racecars or special use vehicles. The use of
Nitrous Oxide will not be allowed
4 Tires must have visible tread
5 The car, including the trunk, must be cleaned of
all loose items. The battery and spare tire must be
secure.
6 Have plenty of gas in the car for the day’s event
7 Dress comfortably and according to the weather.
Much of the course is outdoors.
