Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® for 2008 by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care.
The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction, financial performance, and operational efficiency. This is the second time Memorial Hospital has been recognized with this honor – the first being 2004 when the award was known as Solucient 100 Top Hospitals®.
For Memorial Hospital’s President and CEO, Ray Snowden, this recognition is extremely heartwarming, and he stated, "I am so very proud of Memorial Hospital’s staff, and this recognition is a reflection of the entire organization. Memorial Hospital offers a comprehensive range of acute medical services in a 133-bed facility located on Ninth Street in Jasper. As a regional health center with nearly 90 active staff physicians and 1,400 employees, Memorial Hospital serves Dubois and surrounding counties in southern Indiana. Under the sponsorship of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the hospital annually provides care for more than 8,000 inpatients and 225,000 outpatients. The hospital has received other national recognition including the 2004 Solucient 100 Top Hospitals® Award; the 2007 Select Practice National Quality Award; and 2007 “Five-Star Hospital” designation.
The winners were identified through an in-depth analysis, the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study. The study evaluated 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in nine areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical standards of care. The winning hospitals were announced in the March 30 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
“The 100 Top Hospitals winners raised the bar again this year, delivering a higher level of reliable care and greater value for their communities,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters.
