Date : - 28/08/2009 |
Martha Patterson-Avery, DPT is providing a specialized service to help women lead comfortable, confident and healthy lives
Valley Outpatient Rehabilitation (VOR), a joint venture between Mon-Vale Multiphasics and Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy Associates, Inc., recently announced the opening of a new Women’s Health Center in Rostraver, Pennsylvania that will provide pelvic floor physical therapy to local patients.
Martha Patterson-Avery, DPT, will serve as the Director of the new Women’s Health Center. Patterson-Avery is a licensed physical therapist with more than three years experience and specializes in women’s health and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Patterson-Avery has a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Chatham University as well as a Bachelors of Science in Biology/Bio Chemistry from Duquesne University.
Thomas J. Cullen, R.Ph., Senior Vice President at Monongahela Valley Hospital said, “Valley Outpatient Rehabilitation views the health of women as a priority. The establishment of the first Women’s Health Center in the Mon Valley now offers dedicated care in the treatment of pelvic floor discomfort. When coupled with Martha’s advanced medical training and exceptional patient care skills – patients now have accessibility to receive the benefits of specialized physical therapy treatments.”
“Pelvic floor physical therapy services are offered to patients of all ages - children through late adulthood - and can also include men who are post-surgical and may be experiencing incontinence or sexual dysfunction,” said Patterson-Avery.
At VOR, Patterson-Avery will provide a multidisciplinary approach for healing discomfort and pain within the pelvis and low back areas by working closely with a patient’s physician to provide specialized services to help alleviate pain, increase function and improve the tone of the pelvic floor.
“It is important to provide education and information to patients and the many obstetric, gynecological and urologic physician groups in the region that these specialized services are available. If a patient is pregnant and experiencing pain, incontinence or sexual discomfort, she should talk with her physician regarding physical therapy services,” Patterson-Avery said.
Pelvic floor physical therapy has been an accepted advanced subspecialty by The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1993. Pelvic floor physical therapy services require a physician’s prescription and include six to eight sessions that are typically covered through most medical insurances.
Valley Outpatient Rehabilitation (VOR) Women’s Health Services is located in the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, Willowpointe Plaza, Suite 110, 800 Plaza Drive in Rostraver, PA
