Lifesaving surgery for 40 patients |
Date : - 24/05/2012 |
EIGHTEEN adults and 22 children will receive lifesaving heart surgery when a team from Operation Open Heart visits the Colonial War Memorial Hospital this week.
The visit will be co-ordinated by the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Australia, which has already done the same on more than 80 trips around the world resulting in more than 2000 surgeries.
CWM Hospital medical superintendent Jemesa Tudravu confirmed the details to The Fiji Times yesterday.
He said the team would be in the country for about two weeks during which time they would conduct the 40 surgeries.
"The confirmed dates for open heart surgery at CWM Hospital will be May 26 to June 10 2012," said Dr Tudravu.
Four members of the Opperation Open Heart team were in the country last month to select patients who would receive the surgery.
Next month's visit will mark the Operation Open Heart's 21st trip to Fiji having already treated 658 patients in previous visits.
All doctors on the Operation Open Heart team are volunteers who have taken annual leave without pay in order to be in the country for the operations. |
