Annette Jakubisin-Konicki, APRN, of Day Kimball Healthcare’s Pediatric Centers, recently received her doctorate in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Worcester. Dr. Jakubisin-Konicki completed the degree in 4-1/2 years while researching cardiovascular risk factors and heart-healthy behavior for women.
As a nurse practitioner, Jakubisin-Konicki has been committed to informing her patients about the topic of heart health and preventing heart disease. "As a practitioner in primary healthcare, I wanted to learn the best way to communicate the importance of living a healthy lifestyle in a way that encourages and inspires my patients," said Jakubisin -Konicki. "I realized that I need to listen to what each patient feels is important and learn what their family priorities are in order to effectively communicate with them."
Through her research, Jakubisin-Konicki analyzed 156 surveys. She was surprised to see that participants of every socioeconomic status had unhealthy diets with high consumption of processed and fatty foods. Jakubisin-Konicki applies her research findings to her work by gently reminding patients and families about healthy behaviors each time she sees them. Jakubisin-Konicki sees patients in Day Kimball’s Putnam and Plainfield Pediatric Centers.
Dr. Jakubisin-Konicki resides in Putnam with her husband and two daughters. She also enjoys bicycling, gardening and reading. |
