Lake Regional Announces American Heart Month Events |
Date : - 22/02/2011 |
According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among U.S. men and women. However, with education and awareness, heart disease often can be prevented or treated through diet, exercise and medication, if necessary.
In observance of American Heart Month, Lake Regional Health System will hold a cardiovascular screening from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in the hospital’s third floor conference rooms. Registration is not required.
Free pulmonary function tests, body mass index and blood pressure screenings will be offered. Complete cholesterol panels and blood glucose tests also will be available for $5. In addition, participants may have electrocardiograms performed for $15.
Fasting is required 12-14 hours in advance of the cholesterol panels. Water, black coffee and prescribed medications may be consumed.
A free informational forum on cardiac wellness also is scheduled 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in the third floor conference rooms at Lake Regional Hospital. Registration is required.
Topics will include an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the heart, how to identify and control risk factors for heart disease and warning signs of heart disease. The forum will be presented by exercise physiologist Jody Corpe, E.P., MSES, and Kim Farris, R.N., with Lake Regional Cardiac Rehab
