Mount Sinai Medical Team to Create Spine Care Program for Retired NFL Players |
Date : - 12/06/2009 |
The National Football League has selected a team of specialists from The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City as one of five institutions in the U.S. to be preferred spine care providers for retired NFL players. The Mount Sinai team will be led by Dr. Andrew C. Hecht, co-chief of spine surgery and include a neurosurgeon and two physiatrists. The goals for the new spine care programs are to provide former players with guidance and recommendations and, most importantly, to provide excellence in spine care.
Mount Sinai, the only hospital selected on the entire East Coast, was chosen in addition to University of California Los Angeles Medical Center, University of California at San Francisco Medical Center, Washington University Medical Center and Emory University Medical Center.
"We carefully considered the medical centers and made the selections based on their expertise, high-quality service and stellar reputation," remarked Dr. Elliott Pellman, a medical advisor for the NFL who helped select the institutions. "Each hospital will provide specialized, coordinated spine care to the former players."
"Our team of specialists is thrilled to have been included among the medical institutions that will be helping provide the retired NFL players with the latest, most technically advanced surgical procedures for spine care and all related services," remarked Dr. Hecht.
