Suncoast Safe Kids Annual Meeting and Recognition Luncheon Highlights |
Date : - 01/07/2009 |
The Florida Suncoast Safe Kids Coalition, sponsored by All Children's Hospital, celebrated 18 years of preventing childhood accidental injuries at their Annual Meeting and Recognition Luncheon on Wednesday, June 24th. Emcees for the luncheon were Holley Sinn and Jerome Ritchey of WTSP Channel 10's Studio 10.
Safety awards were presented to:
Champion Hero Tyler Kimmitzer saved a toddler from drowning.
A family who correctly installed and used their child's car seat, thus saving the newborn from death or injury in a T-Bone crash.
A 9-year-old boy credited with saving a 3-year-old from drowning in a back yard pool.
A grandmother who helped to save the life of her 2-year-old grandson by administering CPR after finding him unconscious in the family's backyard pool.
All Children's Hospital on behalf of Safe Kids presented a check for $1,200 to the Children's Burn Foundation of Florida. This donation will help to send one child injured in a fire to the burn camp located in Umatilla, Florida for one week this summer.
It has been an exciting 18 years for our Safe Kids Coalition. The journey began in 1991 with the "incorporation" of the Coalition into Safe Kids Worldwide, the "parent" organization whose headquarters are in Washington, DC. Keeping children safe today and in the future is the Safe Kids priority.
The Coalition, covers five counties (Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, Polk and Pasco), and has more than 350 dedicated members who represent and serve these counties. The Coalition brings together first responders, health and safety experts, educators, local governments, civic groups, businesses and volunteers who strive to educate and protect children from accidental injuries.
Jean Shoemaker and Amy Heinzen of All Children's Hospital, lead the Councils, coordinating outreach efforts in five counties. The injury prevention program is a team effort because of the many ACH employees who participate at our main campus and at the Specialty Care Centers.
