TWO MISS. STATE HOSPITAL POLICE OFFICERS GRADUATE FROM MLEOTA |
Date : - 03/04/2009 |
Mississippi State Hospital (MSH) police officers Glen Agee and Darrell Robinson have become certified law enforcement officers after graduating from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (MLEOTA) in Rankin County Thursday, March 26.
Agee and Robinson were among 69 law enforcement officers from cities, counties and agencies across the state who underwent 10 weeks and more than 400 hours of intensive training.
“Once our officers graduate from the academy, you can see the discipline that has been instilled in them,” said James Blackwell, director of the MSH police department. “Also, the knowledge of law enforcement they gain helps them become better officers.”
Both Agee and Robinson said going through the academy was a very rewarding experience. “It was one of the toughest things I’ve ever endured,” Robinson said. “They prepare you for everything and every situation that you may encounter. It has prepared me to do my job more effectively.”
Agee agreed.
“It was the best training I have ever had,” he said. “They teach you how to handle people and
how to get along with people.”
Both officers had rave reviews for MLEOTA.
“Anyone considering a career in law enforcement should go through MLEOTA,” Robinson said. “It’s the No. 1 academy in the state of Mississippi.”
“You get top of the line training at MLEOTA,” Agee said. “When you get back to your department you are well-prepared and ready to go. MLEOTA is definitely No. 1.”
Lori Smith, basic class coordinator for MLEOTA, commended the academy’s latest graduates.
“This is one of the most challenging academies, and this class excelled beyond our expectations,” she said. “They had good class leadership.”
Training at the academy focuses on several things designed to improve officers’ job performance, including academics, defensive driving, physical fitness, and firearms training.
MSH, a facility of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, was founded in 1855 and facilitates improvement in the quality of life for Mississippians who are in need of mental health, chemical dependency or nursing home services, by rehabilitating to the least restrictive environment, utilizing a range of psychiatric and medical services, which reflect the accepted standard of care and are in compliance with statutory and regulatory guidelines.
