What you need to know about swine flu |

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital is working closely with the Illinois Department of Public Health and local health departments, and is sharing information regarding any swine flu activity. The hospital is also receiving information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to stay current on this rapidly changing situation.
If you think you are experiencing symptoms of the swine flu, you should contact your primary care doctor.
Symptoms of the swine flu can include
Fever (greater than 100ºF or 37.8ºC)
Cough and/or sore throat
Stuffy nose
Chills
Headache
Body aches
Fatigue
Other more unusual symptoms may include diarrhea and/or vomiting
If you are experiencing fever with any of these symptoms, please contact your doctor.
The emergency department is not testing for swine flu in patients who do not have these symptoms.
If you get sick with influenza, the CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
To prevent the possible spread of swine flu
* Avoid unnecessary contact with ill people.
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your
sleeve (if you do not have a tissue) when you cough
or sneeze. Throw used tissues in a trash can.
* Wash your hands with soap and water after you cough
or sneeze
* Use alcohol-based hand sanitizing foam or gel.
* Try to get eight hours of restful sleep a night
* Drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.
* Do not touch surfaces that may contaminated with
the flu virus.
