** Alaska Native Medical Center **
In 1969, Alaska Natives began a long journey to a tribally-governed Alaska Native health care system. Their efforts led to a sophisticated and comprehensive tribally-owned and -managed health care system that provides integrated programs to more than 138,000 Natives from all parts of our vast state. This Alaska Tribal Health System represents the power of unity among Alaska’s tribes, and reflects the perseverance, intelligence, and vision of our tribal health care leaders.
** MISSION **
The Alaska Native Medical Center shall fulfill the mission and vision of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and Southcentral Foundation by working together with the Native community to achieve wellness by providing the highest quality health services for all Alaska Natives.
History Of Alaska Native Medical Center
** HISTORY **
Beginning in the 1940s the U.S. Indian Health Service began providing health care for Alaska Native people. By 1998, transition to Alaska Native ownership was completed with the transfer of ANMC to ANTHC and SCF. Today, ANMC has become a world leader in health care where advanced technology meets human caring. ANMC is also a gathering place where long-time friends can celebrate life events, learn ways to maintain wellness or simply visit one another.
