** Our Mission **
To promote health with competence, a caring attitude, and cultural sensitivity.
** Our Vision **
BBAHC is a tribal organization that is the model of quality, medical innovation, and financial viability in rural Alaska.
** Our Philosophy **
We believe the people of Bristol Bay can and should be healthy. Individuals have a right to, and responsibility for, making informed decisions that affect their health status.
We believe we must remain accountable to the tribes of Bristol Bay who entrust their health care resources to the Corporation and be responsible trustees of these resources.
We believe that all people in Bristol Bay should have an equal right to access health care services and we will strive to meet those needs within the bounds of limited resources.
We believe in Native preference hiring.
We believe that prevention of health care problems is more desirable than treatment. We will strive to provide family focused prevention and health education information to villages that will result in healthy lifestyle choices.
We believe in respecting elders and in providing resources that foster their dignity and independence.
We believe it is necessary to provide encouragement to Alaska Natives to receive higher education, to select health care careers and return to Bristol Bay to pursue their chosen field.
We believe in fostering cross-cultural understanding.
We believe the Corporation should provide a good role model.
We believe in fostering a healthy environment.
We believe in developing and delivering health care services in accordance with the customary and traditional way of life of the people of Bristol Bay.

History Of Bristol Bay Area Health Corp
Formed in 1973, BBAHC began managing and operating Kanakanak Hospital and the Bristol Bay Service Unit for the Indian Health Service (IHS) in 1980. It was the first tribal organization in the United States to do so under P.L. 93-638.
As part of its "Celebrating 90 years of healthcare delivery & 30 years of tribally directed healthcare in Bristol Bay" campaign, BBAHC published a brochure that detailed the organization's origins. Along with its historical photographs (donated by the French family), this publication provides a valuable look into BBAHC history.
