History Of Meeker Memorial Hospital
** History **
The Hospital's history in Litchfield dates back to 1897, beginning as a privately operated hospital. The Litchfield Hospital was built in 1910, as a shareholder, not-for-profit hospital. That hospital operated until 1952, beginning with 16 beds and later expanding to 40 beds. In 1952, a new hospital building was erected and we became the Meeker County Memorial Hospital (MCMH), a nonprofit hospital serving the Meeker County area. MCMH was originally licensed as a 70-bed hospital and expanded to a 91-bed hospital in 1970.
As health care changed, so did MCMH. Beginning in 1988, MCMH looked closely at changing health care and responded to trends of growing outpatient service needs. The Hospital began major renovation projects to decrease the total bed size to 38 inpatient beds and provide space to deliver more outpatient services.
Today, after major renovations in 1989, 1992, 1995 and 2003 we offer responsive medical services in an up-to-date and well-equipped facility convenient to patients. We are a critical access hospital. We have changed our name and are now known as Meeker Memorial Hospital (MMH), reflecting our service to Meeker county and the region. We continue to keep in step with the most current and sophisticated diagnostic, rehabilitation, surgical and treatment procedures. We offer inpatient and outpatient services that continue to change as we meet your needs. We broke ground and began the structural portion of Phase One, a 26.5 million dollar MMH Expansion/Renovation Project in Nov, 2007. We opened the new patient care areas in June 2009 bringing us to a new total of 35 patient care beds. This marks the first major expansion of approximately 75,000 square feet for MMH since the original building was built in 1951-52. Phase One is focused on direct improvements to patient care services. The new layout will improve patient flow and privacy. Related services such as surgery, emergency and radiology are located one the main level and offer greater patient flow. All inpatient services will be on third floor equipped with private patient rooms for medical surgical and critial care and new private OB suites for that special delivery. We have expanded rehabilitation services and specialty services on second floor to include a Rehabilitation Services area for PT, OT and Speech all in one convenient location. A new Cardiac Rehabilitation Services area for our Phase II and III Cardiac Rehabilitation patients. In adition we have added new Sleep Suites for our Sleep Services and expanded areas for chemotherapy treatment and cancer care. We have opened the new Open Door Gifts, added a Chapel and updated our Dining Services at the Prairie Winds Cafe'.
MMH is committed to, "Care as it should be." with a mission to serve you. We take this mission seriously to administer the finest health care we can provide to you and your family.
