About St. Francis Regional Medical Center
** About Us **
St. Francis Regional Medical Center has a rich tradition of providing quality health care for the people living in Scott, Carver and western Dakota counties. Founded by a small group of Franciscan Sisters in 1938, St. Francis has grown from a small, community hospital to a comprehensive, high-quality, regional medical center, rapidly expanding to meet the needs of this fast-growing area.
St. Francis has been distinguished as one of the best community hospitals in the nation. It is the region’s first choice for high-quality, respectful and comfortable care for thousands of individuals and families. Local access to high-quality health care makes St. Francis a valuable community asset, both to the individuals and businesses it serves.
Today, St. Francis Regional Medical Center continues to provide excellent, compassionate health care services with an emphasis on individual dignity in the healing of body, mind, and spirit in responding to the needs of people who reside in our communities.
Mission, Vision, Values and Statement of Partnership
* Mission *
At St. Francis we work together to provide all people the healing experience we would expect for ourselves and our families.
* Vision *
Through our actions and accomplishments, we will consistently be recognized as one of the best community hospitals in America.
** Our History **
In 1938 five Franciscan Sisters purchased the county poorhouse and opened the St. Francis Hospital and Home in Shakopee, Minn.
Over the years, care demands increased. With the support of the community, a new structure was built in 1952.
In 1987 the Franciscans transferred sponsorship and ownership of the hospital to the Benedictine Health System based in Duluth, Minn.
By October 1993 a new alliance was formed between St. Francis, the Benedictine Health System and HealthSpan (a predecessor organization of Allina Hospitals & Clinics).
Growing health care needs and exceptional community support enabled the new St. Francis Regional Medical Center to open its doors in July 1996.
Today St. Francis Regional Medical Center is jointly owned and sponsored by the Essentia Community Hospitals and Clinics, Allina Hospitals & Clinics and Park Nicollet Health Services. This unique structure combines the caring and compassion of a community hospital with the modern medical technology, specialties and services found in the metro area. St. Francis provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency care services on a collaborative medical campus with more than 30 other clinics and providers.
