Directors "walk the wards" as Leeds Teaching Hospitals put patient safety first |
Date : - 17/09/2009 |
To coincide with National Patient Safety Week, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to improving the safety of patients at its hospitals with the awarding of a certificate of progress by Patient Safety First.
Leeds is at the forefront of the national week of activity, and members of the Trust’s Executive Board of Directors - who are ultimately accountable for patient safety - will be ‘going back to the wards’ every day to promote the importance of keeping patients safe.
The week will also encourage hospital staff to the take time out to look at their own practice with a critical eye.
The Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Trust, Ruth Holt, said:
“The wellbeing of patients at every stage of their time in hospital is critical to us and we want to ensure Leeds Teaching Hospitals are some of the safest in the country.
“We can do this by identifying areas where we are making progress, such as healthcare associated infections, and build on that.
“Leadership support is extremely important and the Executive Directors have been playing an active role in getting out and about across the organisation to promote the importance of patient safety.”
The week long campaign internally will include podcasts from two of the Trust’s experts in patient safety, up-to-the minute web reports with feedback from Executive Director walk rounds, a patient safety on-line forum for staff to share lessons, and more.
