Einstein Network Recognized by Premier Healthcare Alliance for High-Quality Patient Care |
Date : - 17/07/2009 |
Philadelphia - July 16, 2009 - Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, the largest independent academic medical center in the Delaware Valley, has won the 2009 Award for Quality (AFQ) from Premier healthcare alliance, a consortium of thousands of hospitals that work to improve healthcare quality and maintain the nation's most comprehensive repository of clinical and financial information. Selected from more than 3,700 eligible hospitals, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network was one of only 23 hospitals in the country to receive the honor and to achieve the top one percent designation for quality, efficiency and process of care.
"We're pleased to receive this acknowledgement of our network's ability to consistently set the standard in clinical excellence, and it's gratifying to be the only academic medical center in the Philadelphia region to receive it," said Barry R. Freedman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. "Healthcare providers, consumers, and payers are all interested in evaluating how hospital care is delivered, and it's helpful to have concrete measures that prove quality care."
All acute care facilities in the country that submitted data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the CMS Hospital Compare project were considered for the AFQ. Quality and efficiency measures were calculated for 62 diseases, including heart failure, asthma, diabetes and hypotension.
Quality was measured by the incidence of three outcomes: mortality, morbidity, and complications. Operational efficiency, assessed using length of stay outcomes for all cases in each hospital, reflects how efficiently hospitals deliver care and how effectively a hospital assigns resources to its patients.
"The Award for Quality honors the efforts of our nation's leading hospitals to provide superior quality and operational efficiency," said Susan DeVore, Premier incoming President and Chief Executive Officer. "We're thrilled to celebrate the efforts of these facilities as they improve the health of the communities they serve."
