MossRehab Again Ranked among Nation's Top Rehabilitation Hospitals by U.S.News & World Report
Date : - 22/07/2009
July 22, 2009 (Elkins Park, Pa.) ─ For the 16th consecutive year, MossRehab, part of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, has been recognized as one of the nation's leading rehabilitation facilities in the 2009-2010 U.S.News & World Report magazine survey of "America's Best Hospitals." MossRehab ranks 15th on a list of just 23 rehabilitation hospitals named as best in their specialty for the most challenging cases and procedures, based on selections by board-certified physicians.

"We are honored that MossRehab has again been ranked among the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country," said Ruth Lefton, Chief Operating Officer, MossRehab. "Our physicians and staff work hard every day to deliver the highest level of care to our patients, and the recognition in U.S.News & World Report, based on recommendations submitted by the country's top physicians, affirms and celebrates their commitment."

For this year's rankings, U.S. News screened 4,861 medical centers overall, examining how well institutions do in complex and demanding situations. The magazine also ranked hospitals in 16 specialties; only 174 hospitals scored high enough to be ranked in even one of those specialties. Rehabilitation medicine was one of only four medical specialties ranked whose outcome was based solely on reputation. The survey, conducted by RTI International in Triangle Park, N.C., involved a sampling of specialists randomly selected from a national database of physicians.

Because of its comprehensive range of rehabilitative services, a clinical and research team of world-class experts in rehabilitation medicine, and the achievement of superior functional outcomes for patients, MossRehab has earned a global reputation for comprehensive clinical rehabilitation and research programs, with a special focus on medical and cognitive rehabilitation and problems with movement.

MossRehab recently announced it is the exclusive site for U.S. clinical trails of ReWalkTM, the first commercially viable upright device that enables paralyzed individuals to stand, walk, and climb stairs. The trials are being led by Alberto Esquenazi, MD, chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MossRehab, who was also instrumental in the development of ReWalk.

"MossRehab is dedicated to providing the latest and most effective therapeutic technologies and interventions to help patients recover and, ultimately, to improve their quality of life," said Dr. Esquenazi. "Our leadership in medical research and innovation in rehabilitation treatments, combined with a world-class clinical staff, enable us to deliver optimal functional outcomes and an overall positive experience for patients."
