AGH Temporarily Closes Twelve Acute-Care Beds Due to Construction |
Date : - 02/09/2006 |
The Almonte General Hospital (AGH) has temporarily closed 12 acute-care beds, due to construction on the Hospital’s Medical-Surgical Unit.
Nine beds remain open and the other 12 beds are expected to re-open no later than August 21, 2006. In the meantime, any patients who cannot be accommodated at AGH will be transferred to the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital and the Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital.
“We very much appreciate the patience and co-operation of our patients and staff, as well as the assistance we are receiving from the Carleton Place and Arnprior hospitals,” said AGH-Fairview Manor (FVM) Executive Director Ray Timmons. “As we move forward to complete construction on the AGH~FVM Redevelopment Project there may be other brief disruptions, but everyone is working very hard to keep them to a minimum.”
The 12 AGH beds are being closed so that construction workers can gain access to the ceilings in the Medical-Surgical Unit corridors to run heating and cooling pipes to the new Hospital extension.
The AGH~FVM Redevelopment Project will almost double the size of the health and long-term care facility, to 210,000 square feet. It includes the construction of a new 112-bed long-term care home for area seniors and a major expansion and renovation of the Hospital’s emergency, medical-surgical, obstetrical, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy and health records areas. A unique feature of this Project is a 15,000-square-foot covered service link, which will connect the expanded Hospital, new Fairview Manor and existing Manor building.
Construction on the $29-million Redevelopment Project began in September 2005 and is scheduled for completion by June 2007. The new Fairview Manor is expected to open in November 2006.
The Almonte General Hospital is a 52-bed acute/complex continuing care hospital serving Mississippi Mills (Almonte, Pakenham and Ramsay), Arnprior, Carleton Place, the City of Ottawa and surrounding townships. AGH also operates the Lanark County Ambulance Service and Fairview Manor, a 100-bed long-term care facility serving the residents of Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Beckwith, Lanark Highlands and the western part of the City of Ottawa. |
