St Peter's Hospital |
Keen to continue bringing expertise to the NHS |
Date : - 09/09/2009 |
Four years after being appointed to the Board of Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust, Non-Executive Director Norman Critchlow has been re-appointed for a further four years, from 1st November, 2009.
He is Chairman of the Trust’s Finance Committee and also a member of the Audit, Remuneration and Integrated Governance Assurance Committees.
Said Mr Critchlow: “I am delighted to have been appointed for a further four year term, during which time I hope to witness the Trust achieve self determination as a Foundation Trust. For me this is the final stage of a journey which has seen significant improvements at the Trust. It is a testament to all those involved in managing the change that patient safety and operating and financial performance are all now much improved.
“The Board has a strong team ethic, despite its nascent character, and with renewed diligence, discipline and determination, it has every chance of becoming the care provider of choice for its local population and the employer of choice for anyone wanting a career in the NHS in this area. It’s a privilege to serve as one of its officers.”
Welcoming Mr Critchlow’s continuing service on the Trust’s Board, Chairman Aileen McLeish said: “Norman has made a valuable contribution to the Board over the last four years. I welcome his re-appointment at this critical time as we progress towards becoming a Foundation Trust and continue with the Board’s focus on improving patients’ experiences while sustaining the improvements achieved to date.”
Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust is the largest single employer in the area with a staff of approximately 3,200. It serves a population of 380,000 for district services and up to 1 Million for specialist services across the area. The services provided by the Trust include specialist cardiology, limb reconstruction and is the regional centre for neonatal intensive care. The Trust aims to achieve Foundation Trust status in early 2010. Working towards this it has recently held a 12-week period of Public Consultation and nearly 4,000 members of the public have demonstrated their interest by signing up to become Members, with this number continuing to grow. As a young man Derbyshire born Mr Critchlow studied at the London School of Economics. During his working life he has enjoyed a long career at director level in the private sector with a number of senior finance and general management appointments both in England and in the USA. He now works as a consultant, currently working part-time as an Interim Finance Director for a private construction company and a UK Government Development Agency. He is also a Trustee of the Construction Youth Trust, a charity devoted to helping young people overcome barriers to obtain training and gain jobs in the construction industry. Mr Critchlow and his wife live in Egham. They have two adult daughters. Locally he is a member of the Parochial Church Council of St. Jude’s Church, Englefield Green. The Appointments Commission’s Health and Social Care Appointments Committee make all non-executive appointments. They are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Critchlow has had no political activity in the last five years and does not hold any other Ministerial appointments. The remuneration for a non-executive director is £6,096 a year. |
