| CGH Health Foundation Annual Appeal Nears 70% Mark |

Nearly 68% of the $260,000 goal has been raised toward the 2009 CGH Health Foundation Annual Appeal, according to Campaign Co-Chairs Jan Andersen and Marty Benson. Committee members hope to reach goal by the September 17 reception.
“Women’s health is the focus of this year’s Puttin’ on the Pink annual campaign,” said Joan Hermes, Executive Director of the CGH Health Foundation. “An outpouring of support for women’s services has led to an expansion of the existing Women’s Cancer Prevention Program. Cardiac risk, cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and bone density screenings will now be added to the under-served portion of the newly renamed Women’s Health Program.”
Andersen and Benson, two well-known community volunteers, are also overseeing efforts to seek another $115,000 for the purchase of a breast ultrasound scanner for CGH Medical Center. Serving as Honorary Co-Chair with them is Dr. Manorama Hermon, a pediatrician at the Sterling Rock Falls Clinic. “We pay special tribute to the late radiologist Dr. Surjit Hermon, whose dream it was to bring a state-of-the-art breast ultrasound scanner to the hospital,” said Mrs. Benson.
Under the Women’s Health Program, new services will further assist under-served women in taking care of their overall health. “I feel strongly that everyone should have access to the best possible healthcare available,” said Mrs. Andersen, a nurse practitioner. “That is why I am proud to be involved with the work of the Foundation.”
Mrs. Benson urges support of Foundation programs, which will help 70,000 people this year. “It’s especially important that we come up with full funding for programs such as Eyeglasses for Kids and the Prescott Dental Clinic that benefit the under-served,” she said. “In a year when so many people are having trouble making ends meet, thank goodness these programs are already in place.”
Contributions are now being accepted for the 12 health initiatives funded by the CGH Health Foundation, as well as the ultrasound scanner. |
