Get Ready to “A-Maze Us!” |
Date : - 03/10/2008 |
The CGH Health Foundation, Northern Illinois Home Medical Supply (NIHMS) and Sandy Pine Elk Farm, would like to invite you and your family to experience a day of country living, as you join us for this year’s CGH breast cancer awareness event, “A-Maze Us!” scheduled for Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 at Sandy Pine Elk Farm, 28650 Hahnaman Road, Deer Grove.
“Whether it is your mother, daughter, friend or wife, every woman in your family counts,” said Terry Durham, Breast Health Specialist at CGH Medical Center, “and we want these women to ‘a-maze us’ by going to get their mammograms. By holding this family event, we hope to bring families together for some fun and raise awareness about breast cancer.” With nearly 1500 people expected to attend, the “A-maze Us!” event is expected to be one of the largest events in the state of Illinois for breast cancer awareness.
The highlight of the event is the 3-acre CGH Breast Cancer Awareness Corn Maze. Individuals navigating the maze and answering questions on breast health will have their names placed in a drawing for an “a-mazing” gift - a Nextar GPS Navigation System. The other featured maze at Sandy Pine is a 7-acre maze for Birkey's and Case IH.
“Take a horse-drawn wagon ride up to the elk habitat and watch these majestic animals. Help your kids pick a pumpkin or two, wander through the corn mazes, browse the ‘North Woods’ gift store, or sit back, relax, and enjoy an awesome piece of fresh apple pie!” said Jim Henrekin, owner of Sandy Pine Elk Farm.
Other highlights of the weekend include: hourly door prizes, educational booths, a soybean maze for the younger children, a petting zoo, face painting, duck races, a nature walk, a pedal tractor raceway, balloon animals, a storyteller, family photos for $5, and much more!
On Sunday, the winner will be drawn for the Holiday Magic Grand Prize, valued at $500, courtesy of NIHMS. “We see patients every day who have been touched by breast cancer,” said Deb Voss, NIHMS. “So, we realize the importance of breast cancer awareness and education, not only for women, but for their entire family. This is sure to be a fun-filled day of activities, games and fun for all ages!” The Holiday Magic Grand Prize includes admission for 6 to Sandy Pine, a sleigh ride for 6, a fresh cut Christmas tree from the farm, fudge, elk meat, salsa and dips from the Sandy Pine store, a jewelry set, $150 gas card and a $50 gift card.
Saturday hours for the event will run from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday will be from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. One day wristband prices for the event are $11.00 for individuals age 4 and up (3 and under are free). A portion of these sales will go back to the CGH Women's Cancer Prevention Program.
